Starting trial planting in August 2019, after 6 months of care, the organic passion fruit growing model of Mr. Dang Cong Kien (45 years old) in Plei Kan town, Ngoc Hoi district has produced unexpected results.

When we arrived, Mr. Dang Cong Kien was busy harvesting passion fruit. He excitedly boasted: Thanks to organic care, the garden bears fruit regularly and can be harvested every day. The fruit has a lot of rice, plump skin, and looks very eye-catching, so many people order it.

Before starting to implement the model, Mr. Kien traveled to many places and visited many organic passion fruit farms. Realizing that growing passion fruit organically has an investment cost that is not much higher than growing the old method, but brings high economic efficiency, he boldly planted 400 passion fruit roots on a trial basis in 2 areas. .5 acres of family land.

He said that the initial investment cost was 120 million VND, including seeds (400 passion fruit roots imported from Taiwan), wooden tree posts, wire, irrigation system and hiring 1 employee from the time of seeding. until harvest.

In order for his passion fruit garden to always grow and develop well, Mr. Kien always follows care procedures from irrigation, fertilization to pest control. He installed a watering system directly at the roots, watering just enough to avoid waterlogging. Apply mineral organic fertilizer once a month to help plants absorb it easily and not affect the pH of the soil.

To prevent pests and diseases on plants, he also only uses biological products extracted from herbs. Sprayed 3 times a month on average, helps improve the soil environment, creating a balance of organisms and microorganisms in the soil, thereby limiting pests and diseases originating from the soil.

One of the important experiences in growing organic passion fruit was shared by Mr. Kien: “If I want the tree to always grow healthily, I often spray biological products at 6:00 p.m. onwards. At this time there is no more sunlight so the tree absorbs better. Furthermore, at the harvest stage, fruit is susceptible to fly diseases, so we must always be on duty at the garden, observe carefully, and promptly detect pests and diseases to have treatment methods.”

Mr. Kien’s organic passion fruit products are not only consumed in the province through a system of fruit stalls and supply contacts on social networks, but are also ordered to neighboring provinces and companies. export company. Currently, Mr. Kien is affiliated with Tropical Fruit and Vegetable Production and Trading Company Limited (Ho Chi Minh City) to bring the highest quality products to the European market. His products sent to the provinces or exported are carefully packaged and labeled with product traceability codes.

On the market, the price of organic passion fruit is much higher than that of conventionally grown passion fruit. Normally grown passion fruit is purchased by traders at an average price of 6,000 – 10,000 VND/kg, while organic passion fruit is sold to the market at many different prices, depending on the type: Type 1 (beautiful design, The skin is evenly colored, shiny, without spots or scars) usually sold for 40,000 VND/kg; Type 2 (large fruit, uneven skin color) is usually sold for 25,000 VND/kg; Type 3 (small fruit, uneven skin color, scars) is usually sold for 10,000 VND/kg.

Starting sowing seeds in August 2019, after 6 months of care, Mr. Kien harvested the first crop of 2 tons of fruit, minus all costs, net profit of more than 70 million VND. The advantage of this tree is that it produces fruit all year round, lasting 2 – 3 years, with an average of 500 – 700 fruits/tree. If you take good care of it, you can harvest more than 1 ton of fruit every month. As long as the market price is stable, minus all expenses, you will earn a profit of 20 million VND/month.

Mr. Kien expressed: Hopefully in the coming time, the organic passion fruit market will become increasingly warmer, receiving more attention from consumers. From there, it will create motivation and attract more farmers to grow passion fruit in a more organic way.
